ABSTRACT
Objectives: To identify the hidden experiences of curriculum among the undergraduate medical students during the education in medical college.
Study Design: Sequential, Analytic, mixed method study.
Methodology: It was an analytic study conducted at public sector medical colleges. Total 500 students were enrolled in the study from three medical colleges. The study was conducted in sequential way randomly among the students of three years (third year, fourth year and final year). At first, the question performa including the ten questions were distributed among the students followed by their consent. The students, who were willing to participate, were given the performas to fill by initial response yes or no, followed by detailed reasons. At the end of the study the results were compiled and analyzed.
Results: The results showed that majority of the students, 80 % were aware of the concept of hidden curriculum while 20% students were not aware of the concept of hidden curriculum but all students were convinced about their learning on different issues in addition to their mentioned academic syllabus. The results showed although there was no formal teaching regarding the educational leadership, social values, ethical values, emotional intelligence, social intelligence but the students have learnt this in their college days through different ways during ward rotations, OPD postings.
Conclusion: Most of the mentioned aspects of hidden curriculum were addressed in medical college but not by formal training. By integrating certain important aspects students teaching & training can be further improved.
